In March of 2007 I contracted with R J Bean Roofing to replace a wood shake roof that had a 12 x 12 pitch (very steep 45 degree angle) on our two story home in “Old Palo Alto” that was built in 1937. It is a complicated roof having many peaks and valleys. R J was referred to me by a good friend that I have known for 20 years, or more, who said R J was a close friend of his and had done his roof. And he was completely satisfied. I also went to talk in person with another homeowner in Palo Alto, with the same type of roof, for whom R J had replaced their roof. The homeowner raved about R J and the work his team did so I felt very comfortable in selecting R J to do our work. I also obtained an estimate from another roofing company and it was right in line with R J’s estimate. From the very beginning R J was extremely responsive and brought to the table his ideas for the type of roofing materials that he felt matched the look and feel of the home. I live 350 miles south of Palo Alto so I had a trusted friends look at the samples R J brought and they too agreed with R J’s recommendation. I was unable to be at the job site when the work was being completed but R J consistently kept in touch with me by phone on a daily basis, sometimes multiple times a day. R J not only stayed within his estimate but he in fact gave me a reduction because the materials came in under his estimate. R J also found some dry rot damage that was not in his estimate but he repaired it and did not add that work to the bill. And the job was complete within the time that R J said it would be. And he left the property perfectly clean – you would not have known that he was even there. I am pleased to be a reference for R J and the high quality of work that he does. My good friend gave me this advice: “Get past the “image” and deal with the professional roofer that he is.” Respectfully submitted,
